After inquiring about Easter traditions here in Poland, we have learned that children receive special Easter baskets on Saturday before Easter. Inside are various symbolic items including a toy/candy lamb and a decorated egg. The children take their baskets to the local church on Saturday and have the priest bless the baskets. On Sunday morning everyone celebrates a sunrise service at 6:00 am (only one service). They parade around the church singing hymns, then enter and worship. Standing room only with elders being given the available seats.
The day after I asked a colleague about the traditions, she entered my office with a special easter basket just for Delaney! What a nice surprise! We decided to take it to the cathedral downtown for a blessing. Delaney and I were a bit unsure about this since were are Presbyterian not Catholic, but our friends encouraged us and we went. In Delaney's word "I'm glad we went Mom". The display of Christ's tomb in the church was particularly fascinating.
