We left Krakow and took a regional bus to Zakopane (approx 100 km south, and close to the Slovakian border). Zakopane is right in the heart of the Tatras mountains and reported to be quite beautiful. Since we arrived in a rain storm, we couldn't really tell. We made it to the hostel and checked in. A very nice place!
We ventured out for lunch. I tried something new that I'd seen on menus before: bigos. Its cabbage and meat in a kind of stew. I wouldn't normally go for cabbage, but I was feeling bold. It was worth it, quite good. By the time we got back to the hostel, we are all soaked, even with our raincoats and umbrellas. We stayed put for the rest of the day and kept our fingers crossed for better weather tomorrow.
