Random sights of Kraków

One of the fun things about exploring a new town is just taking a walk and seeing what you can see. Surrounding the old town of Kraków is a greenbelt. Grass, flowers, trees and fountains fill this park, making it a very pleasant place for a stroll.

One of the fountains in the greenbelt. Each stream has it's own hole to disappear into.

An inflatable tent housing a big round theatre advertising something. They were even selling t-shirts.

While taking a breather on a bench in the middle of the square, I heard chanting. I looked up to see a bunch of people marching to the statue by where I was sitting. There were uniformed soldiers and civilians, priests and children. Many bearing actual lit torches. One of them handed me a flyer. The marchers were part of a group supporting an initiative to establish May 25 as European Day of The Heroes Who Fought Against Totalitarianism. May 25 is the anniversary of the death of Rotamaster Witold Pilecki, "the only person in history who volunteered to be imprisoned in Nazi German concentration camp." (so states the flyer that I was handed). For more information on this brave man, go to

The center square contained many tents housing representatives of numerous universities recruiting new students.

This outdoor cafe was very kid friendly. In the background, you can see a sandbox for the kids to play in.

Kraków jumbotron

Dancing fountain with lights

Beer truck. According to the emblem on the grill, it is a Barkas Hainchen.

Wawal Castle's very own fire breathing dragon (or, what some people will go through to light a cigarette).

This is a "not allowed" sign that I spotted on a trolley on the way to the air museum. Not sure what they have against horn players.
