Malbork Castle

We took a short train ride to Malbork Castle yesterday.  The castle was amazing!  It was built by the Teutonic knights in the 1400s, and eventually fell into disrepair.  It was heavily damaged in WWII, but has been carefully reconstructed and restored since then,  becoming a World Heritage Site in 1997.  We got the audio guides that tell you about each room you pass through, the battlements, daily life in the castle, the special exhibits, etc.  Even with skipping through some parts of the audio track, it took us a good 3 hours to get through the whole castle.  I was revisited by "hey Mom" and only got to listen to about half of my recording, but it was ok.

Delaney and I took a special side trip up to the top of the tall tower.  The view of the castle, grounds, and surrounding countryside was amazing!  Although it threatened to rain on us in the morning, by the afternoon it was sunny and beautiful.

Delaney and I climbed the stairs to the top of this tower - awesome!

The roof and some of the walls in the large chapel were destroyed in WWII.
 It is still undergoing rennovations.
