American music

I've been surprised every time I've walked into the shopping center, or ridden in a taxi and found myself listening to American pop music (often dating back to the 1980s).  Although I have heard other forms of music in various settings, the number of people listening to American music with lyrics in English really surprises me.  It not just popular among younger people, but older ones too.
