We finally got the chance to take the kids out to the local lake here (David and I visited in April when it was still pretty cold). Although some friends had told us it was dirty, it didn't look any different from Cheney Lake at home. A bit of sediment and sand, but no big deal. With the sun blazing down and a hot sweaty bus ride behind us, we dove right in. There was a small cove with a gradual incline and soft sandy bottom. Since it was not a school day, most of the people there were little kids with grandparents (the same swim suit styles from the pools prevail at the lakes too, but without swim caps).
After an hour or so, the sun gradually went behind the clouds and it started to look like rain. We heard some thunder and decided it was time to head home. With a sudden rush of wind, the storm arrived (before we made it to the bus shelter). We had to wait 30 minutes for the next bus. Thank goodness I had a blanket to throw around Delaney because we were wet and it was windy!
As the bus headed back into town, we passed two low lying areas that were flooded! All the traffic had almost come to a stand still and several cars were stalled in the water. Tree limbs were down in several places. It was quite an impressive storm (though not as impressive as Kansas storms!) Kind of a strange end to a day at the lake.
