Afternoon in Krakow

After seeing the Wawel Cathedral, Delaney set off to explore some of the other churches in the city while David and Adam headed to the aviation museum (is this a surprise to anyone?  They will have to post their own pictures and commentary).

We visited St Andrews, St. Peter and Paul, St. Mark's, and the Basicilica of St Mary on the main square.  Mass was underway in one church, so no pictures from there...

St. Mary's Bascilica - most recently restored in 1989-99.  The alter was disassembled and hidden from the Nazis in 1939, but they found it and took it to Germany.  It was returned to Poland in 1946, but was not restored to the church until 1957 because the communists did not support the Catholic church.

Delaney and I finished our day back in the main square.  There was a stage set up with various performances going on throughout the day.  A group of traditional folk dancers caught our eye, but they were finishing up as we arrived.  Delaney caught sight of a group of school children who were clearly waiting to perform, so we decided to hang around.  The next 'performance' however were 3 teens who were champions at solving Rubics cubes in record time.  They did four rounds with the quickest completion in 1 min and 16 seconds.  Then we go to enjoy the kids folk dancing!
