Zamosc

Delaney and I enjoyed a day trip to Zamosc yesterday. (David stayed home with Adam who was sick).  Zamosc is a World Heritage site.  It was built at the end of the 1500s by Jan Zamoyski who hired an Italian architect to design it from scratch.  The design included Zamoyski's palace, a cathedral, the market square, the defensive fortifications, and importantly - the 3rd higher education institution in Poland (the other two being in Krakow and Vilnius, now Lithuania).  Eventually an orthodox church and synogogue were also built.  The town survived a siege by Swedish troops in the 1600s (one of only three other towns to do so).

Bell Tower for the Cathedral - we were there on a Sunday morning and didn't get to go in.  Young kids were taking their first communion and the service ran very long.

Delaney and many other kids had a fabulous time playing at this local fountain.  The water would shoot up from individual jets in changing patterns .  The kids would try to anticipate the pattern and get on top of the next jet where it would spray.  At one point they all came shooting up and there was a giant collective squeal of delight!  Delaney accidentally sprayed one boy (who didn't seem to mind), but his grandma came over and scolded her. It wasn't a big deal, but if you don't want to get wet, you probably shouldn't be playing in a fountain : )  One of the girls who had taken first communion came over in her beautiful white dress and waded on the edges, until her sister/cousin dragged her into the middle of the fountain where they both got quite wet (surprisingly there was no scolding that happened with this incident).
