OBI, the home improvement store.

What does a home improvement store look like here in Lublin? Just like Home Depot, complete with the same lovely orange motif.

Polished cement floors, industrial strength shelving piled high with goodies, floors crowded with pallets piled high with necessities. Just about every isle I ventured down had at least one employee either helping customers or stocking shelves. Our stateside stores could sure take a lesson in customer service from OBI.

An amazing number of door handles on display. Who could have thought up so many styles of these types of handles.

All kinds of locks. These are just a small sample of what was displayed. They all looked more secure than anything I have seen in stateside stores (except in locksmith shops).

Their selection of mowers, especially riding mowers, was small. The grass yards here are mostly smaller than what you would find in the states. Many of the yards that we have seen have large gardens surrounded by smaller strips of grass. This was the entire collection of riding mowers in the store.

The green, both yellow and the red mowers all have very narrow, plastic decks. They looked like they may have been about 17" wide. Most of the power mowers had Briggs & Stratton engines. There were bigger power mowers, probably around 20" as well. These all had metal decks.

There was also quite the selection of electric mowers, same width selections and plastic decks.

These electric mowers appear to be rotary blade mowers. I have never seen electric powered ones in the states.

This little cutie (the green one) is a push rotary with a bag. Plastic deck and not very wide. The wheels seem to have some sort of spring assist or something. Hard to explain. It pushed with surprising ease. It would be at home on a putting green.

The outdoor section had the expected plants and landscaping supplies. They had quite a few fountains. One feature that they all had that I do not remember seeing in the states is L.E.D. lighting inside the water coming out the fountain. In this picture it looks like flaming candles, but it is lighted water. Pretty nifty.

  1. This Gardena machines (EVC 500, 1000) aren't mowers - They are something like powered rakes used to collect old grass stuck between fresh one. We use it once a year after first mowing and it usually collects more grass than you have from one mowing!

  3. Oh, looks cool!
I also improved a half of my house recently - gave all the walls a good re-paint and remodeled the whole kitchen and bathroom. It feels so much more home-like now!
But I couldn't do it without help from the home expert - check out their website, they're amazing.
