Transportation observations

The Athens airport is on the far eastern side of the city.  It took us almost an hour to ride the metro into the center of the city.  Thankfully all of the signage is in English as well as Greek.  We had no trouble finding our stop, making a transfer, then exiting one block from our hotel.  The metro system is apparently new in the city (about 10 years old).  It is very modern, well designed, and immaculately clean.  We haven't seen one graffiti mark in the system yet.  It is also very well used (ie crowded) and well ventilated.  Adam noted almost immediately that there is also a warning to "mind the gap" (but not in such lilting tones as in London).

Traffic appears pretty congested.  Lots of small cars, smart cars, and mo-peds.  Cars always have the right of way, so pedestrians - look out!
